T for therapy or taboo
So I am an anaesthesiologist by profession and today I had this patient on my table posted for a minor surgical procedure… he seemed anxious which was a bit more than normally what we experience. After conversing with him, at a point of time I felt he’s having a panic attack but his heart rate and blood pressure said against. Perfectly normal. Why I felt this was, he was having a lot of trouble articulating his words! Somehow we induced him to anaesthesia and were told by the surgeon that our patient was a super intelligent guy, graduated from one of the top institutes and was working for a fine 1 cr p.a but has quit for past one year. One thing I didn’t tell you was that throughout induction he was worried about his job and that the people around will know that he has had a surgery which obviously was discomforting for him but to an extent which was incomprehensible to me. Also later his parents told us that he refused to go to therapy.
My question is, has workplace environment become so inhospitable and why is therapy still a taboo amongst us youngsters!
Depression, anxiety are very prevalent and it is right to say that some people are just more predisposed to them!
